Gold Coast ATMS National Seminar Series: November 2

Connective tissue dynamics: this seminar looks at how the process of mechanotransduction, the conversion of mechanical signals into electrochemical activity, shapes many aspects of cell behaviour, from the conceptus and across all of life. The focus is on the fibroblasts and the extracellular matrix (ECM) and their relationship with the vascular system. Appropriate mechanical force, primarily in the form of fluid flow shear in the embryo and later in a variety of forms, is an essential element of normal and healthy physiology. Dis-ease begins with interruptions to these mechanical forces either through excessive loading or the absence of any mechanical force. Through Dr Eddie's presentation on the biodynamic view of embryology it will become clear developmental processes in-utero that are driven by mechanotransdution are always in play in all stages of life. Manual therapy can contribute to the restoration or rebalancing of these processes when they have become stagnant or overactive.
