Many therapists are interested in learning more about how to move beyond corrective approaches to manual therapy into work that addresses long standing patterns of structural and functional imbalance. Such integrative approaches include the works developed by Rolf (structural integration), Feldenkrais, Hanna, Alexander and Sutherland. The integrative approach of Structrual Integration uses MFR, movement coaching and guided imagery to establish balance, enhanced nervous system regulation and deep feelings of being freed from unsatisfying habitual tendencies of emotional and mental reactivity. I have used this approach for over 40 years and in a variety of settings, including paediatric clinics and a leading back pain clinic in Denver, Colorado and I am confident that it has real value for diverse populations. I've worked with CP children, stroke patients, chronic pain patients, burn patients, post partum pelvic instability patients as well as a lot of garden variety people who suffer from chronic pain and stiffness - this approach makes a significant difference to all of them.
